Beverly Hills

Two things define the Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood above all else: Irish heritage and amazing architecture.  The neighborhood’s deep Emerald Isle roots prevail on Western Avenue, where you’ll find more Irish bars than anywhere else in the city.  It’s also the home of Chicago’s South Side Irish Parade, a massive, family-friendly celebration that has kicked off the Southside’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations for more than 40 years.

Since the late 1800s, this area has provided an excellent quality of life for its residents. The community enjoys architecturally and historically significant homes, quality public and private schools, and excellent public transportation.  There are few other neighborhoods in the city that boast Beverly’s cultural diversity and friendly atmosphere of village living.

As for architecture, The Beverly Unitarian Church/Givin’s Castle is one of the area’s most striking buildings. Set on a scenic green hill, the impressive structure borrows its design from a medieval castle once situated between Dublin and Belfast.  The neighborhood is home to one of the country’s largest historic districts — just walk a few blocks in any direction to see eclectic array of residential architecture, from sweeping Prairie-style residences to brick Tudors to Spanish-inspired homes.  To catch a glimpse of some of the community’s stunning architecture, the Beverly Area Planning Association hosts a popular home tour each spring.

The neighborhood is bounded by 87th Street to the North, 119th Street to the South, Vincennes Avenue to the East, and California Avenue to the West.  Housing boomed after the Great Chicago Fire when wealthy Chicagoans moved away from the city to enjoy the pleasures of rural living in the large, lavish homes built atop the hill of prestigious Longwood Drive.  Convenient transportation to jobs and shopping downtown offered residents the best of both worlds – much the same as we enjoy today!
